In Ossola’s dialect “lac d’co d’lag”, that means the lake on a lake’s cape.
The Devero lake is an artificial basin made by a dam, which was built in 1908 and completed in 1924. The water of  d’Arbola torrent and some other minor creeks flows into this new lake which raised its level thus requiring a new levee with Forcoletta dam (the only dam in Val d’Ossola that was built with stuffed layers of earth).
The trail crosses the Natural Park of Veglia alp and Devero alp, passing through Devero plain and Crampiolo village, reaching the lake surrounded by larch trees. From this point the lake can be hiked all around in summer, and can be crossed in winter when it’s frozen (better with skis or snowshoes).
