The itinerary starts from Colle Mattarella, where a UNESCO Human Heritage site, the Sacro Monte Calvario of Domodossola, is built. From this point the trail winds among the woods, leading to old towns that were part, until 1928, of Vagna town, later annexed to Domodossola. On this side of the hill the vine is still grown as of today, especially the ancient vine variety of Prunent.

In Vagna a curious tradition is repeated annually: on the second Sunday of June the “festa dul bambin” (festival of the child) is celebrated. A tradition dating back to 1700, when the men working abroad came back to their native towns and celebrated the summer Christmas with their families! During this festival the town is adorned, women dress with traditional clothes and the panettone “dul bambin” is eaten.

The trail proceeds halfway towards Vallesone town, reaching the village of La Tensa, which is now restructured and used as agritourism. From this point the trail goes down towards Anzuno, with its typical church facing the Toce’s plain. This last tract follows the way of wine presses and mills that starts from Villadossola.
