The town of Invorio, whose origin dates back to 200 ac, is 65% covered in woods, crossed by a dense net of trails. Along these paths one can move from the hamlets to the center of Invorio without ever touching the asphalt, apart when at the town. The center of Invorio is dominated by the Visconti tower and right here the history and the legend of Maria Pusterla were born.
Margherita lives in Milan, she’s the cousin of Galeazzo and Luchino Visconti. She’s young and beautiful and marries his lover, the rich Francesco Pusterla. She’s so beautiful that her cousin Luchino falls in love with her and tries every way to seduce her. Margherita doesn’t reciprocate though, and she informs her husband who comes up with a plan for vengeance, but is discovered, arrested and killed.
Margherita is taken to the possessions of Invorio and locked in the tower, where Luchino attempts one last courting, but, being rejected once again, walls her up alive in the castle’s dungeons. Since then the ghost of the beautiful Margherita roams the Visconti tower weeping for her sad destiny.
The tower is 16 mts high and is on private property, so it can’t be visited.
By the tower, in Schiesa district, along the main road that starts from Invorio and leads to Vergante, the public washhouse can be seen. It’s an important historic testimony, a huge building, one of its kind: it was entirely built in reinforced concrete in 1931.
