Inaugurated on the 21st of august 2021 by the sections of CAI Somma Lombardo and CAI SEO Domodossola, the G37 trail creates the link between the Somma Lombardo mountain hut, at Sabbione lake, and Margaroli mountain hut, at Vannino lake, crossing a unique landscape, rich in naturalistic and geological peculiarities.
The trail starts from Morasco - Riale and goes up to Sabbione Alp and CAI Somma Lombardo mountain hut, which can be used as a foothold for a two-days trekking.
The itinerary proceeds following the G37 trail that leads to the Margaroli mountain hut at Vannino Alp. The first tract of the trail is well marked, and one can see the cave, used to gather inert materials used to build the Sabbione dam, until the Gemelli di Ban lake. From this point the itinerary proceeds on moraines, screes and untraced snowfields where horizontal marks and small piles of flat stones are present (it’s recommended to follow the GPX track).
The itinerary reaches the Gemelli di Ban glacier, goes up to the pike of Pizzo del Costone and down to a large sandy valley where the Bianche Guglie del Lebendun (white pinnacles of Lebendun) rise: these are a calcareous formation with a pronounced white color which clearly stands out against the dark color of the surrounding rocks, in an almost lunar landscape.
After reaching the Vannino pass, in front of the Arbola glacier, the descent towards Sruer lake and Vannino lake begins. The ring itinerary proceeds towards Nefelgiù pass, eventually going back to Morasco and Riale following a tract of the GTA (Great Traverse of Alps) and Sentiero Italia (Italy Trail).
