The itinerary starts from “vecchia Villa” (old Villa): the small towns that were part of the first nucleus of Villadossola, set on Moncucco’s slopes. The ring trail develops, in the tract from Tappia to Sogno, along the Via Alta (high road), the trail that linked the valleys of Bognanco and Antrona without the need to go down to the valley floor.
Going up along the trail that leads to the peak of Moncucco, following the ridge, the natural border that composes this ridge is clearly visible: on the slope towards Toce’s valley there is a dense chestnut grove, while the slope on Val Brevettola is characterized by a fresh beechwood. From this point the trail proceeds along the ridge on short exposed and unequipped tracts, among the rocks and dense and low vegetation, eventually reaching the San Bernardo’s chapel. The narrow trail proceeds halfway up along the steep slope of Val Stramba, reaching the pasture of Corte dei Raffi.
The itinerary passes by the pastures set on the slopes of Val Stramba, crossed by Rio dell’Inferno (hell’s creek): Alpe Maianco, Alpe Baione, Alpe La Colma, Alpe Tresenta, Alpe Bogo, Alpe Mere and Alpe Orzalina.
