This trails starts from Carpugnino, where the roman church of San Donato, now declared national monument, was built. Following the asphalt road through the woods, just before Comnago town, there is a "cup and ring" stone. A cup and ring stone is an engraving in a rock that dates back to Neolithic age and most of them were indeed found in Piedmont.

After leaving the road, the trail the goes up to Monte Croci: a panoramic terrace from which one can see the lake Maggiore, its Lombard coast and the lakes of Varese. The trail proceeds among birch woods, passing by the Golf Club Des Iles Borromees and reaching Motta Rossa, from where Mottarone can be seen in the distance. It eventually goes down to the small town of Stropino.
