The Mazzoccone mount defines the separation between the Valle Strona and lake Orta basins, which is quite clearly proved by the vegetation that, from beech woods, becomes pastures.
On the mount’s peak there’s a stone obelisk with an eagle statue. This is the most panoramic point of the track and from here the whole lake, Mottarone and the horizon towards Novara plain can be seen.
The Mazzoccone mount was used during the Resistance as a connection among Valsesia’s lakes. This trail now been fixed and set up with picnic areas and trail posts.
