This trail runs along the Alta Via del Lago Maggiore (high way on lake Maggiore), a hiking track in stages, with views and suggestive panorama, that connects Mergozzo to Cannobio.
The climb towards mount Faiè starts from Bracchio, where a mule track goes up to Curghei and ends in Vercio. Here starts the track to Vercio’s hermitage, the first panoramic point of this trail.
After reaching the peak we’ll walk along the crest of Pianezza alp and the view from here is surprising: the sight goes from lake Orta, lake Maggiore, Mottarone’s peak, Montorfano and Toce’s valley with lake Mergozzo, until the lakes of Varese in the distance. After reaching the peak of mount Faiè the panorama runs in 360°, with a wide view on Val Grande.
The descent to Ompio alp and Fantoli lodge is quite difficult. The undergrowth of the beech wood is covered in leaves that, under certain climatic circumstances, might be quite slippery.
