Cannobio, Cannobina, Cannobino, repectively the town, the valley and its river are the main characters of this itinerary. The trail starts from Traffiume, goes along river Cannobino and reaches the towns of Campeglio and Sant’Agata, located on the slopes of Monte Giove, and facing towards the panorama of Lake Maggiore and the nearby Switzerland.

Along river Cannobino there is the ravine of Sant’Anna: a deep gorge dug in the centuries by the force of the river that, with its cold waters, has become the ideal habitat of fario trouts. This amazing gorge takes its name from the sanctuary built on the nearby rocky spur, the church was dedicated to Sant’Anna by a small community of inhabitants of Traffiume, who went to live in Rome.

The ravine of Sant’Anna is crossed by two bridges, one for vehicles and one pedestrian, called “dell’Agostana”. Moving towards the mouth of the river, another bridge crosses Cannobino. It’s the Ponte Ballerino (dancing bridge): a suspended, non-reinforced bridge, built in 1933, partially rebuilt in the 50s after a flooding and raised in 1985.
