The trail starts from Riale plain, on the road along the mountain slope that holds lake Kastel, passing in front of Maria Luisa lodge and by the Toggia lake. An artificial reservoir that was made possible with a dam built in 1932.
On the opposite side of the dam there is a series of organized pylons that once held the amazing WAGRISTORATORE, a mountain lodge designed by Architect Piero Portaluppi (who designed seven hydroelectric stations and the famous restaurand on top of Toce's waterfall).

The Wagristoratore was launched in 1930, managed by "Società Anonima Alberghi della Formazza". It was made of two train wagons, laying on the pylons, one was a restaurant and the other had rooms. The inital project had some kind of chalet joining the two wagons, but it was never realized.

Unfortunatley only the pylons remain today, the wagons were probably dismantled during the second world war, when San Giacomo pass became an escape path to Switzerland.
