The traces of a prehistoric age

A collection of itineraries to discover a distant past.

A history, that of north Piedmont, which began a few thousand years ago, when the first civilizations landed in this area.

Different populations, sometimes nomadic and sometimes sedentary, have inhabited these places leaving numerous traces of their passage.

Prehistoric settlements and burials, places of worship, cup marks engraved on the rock and more, all of this is present in the territories of north Piedmont and still visible along many of the paths on the hills of Lake Orta, the heights of Lake Maggiore and the mountains of Ossola.

With this collection of itineraries, ITINERARIUM aims to provide a tool to be able to grasp and identify the many signs rich in history that perhaps, very often, go unnoticed. Suggesting to complete the discovery of these extraordinary testimonies of the past with a visit to the museums that house and display many important finds.
